Indoor Tanning Tax Comes Into Effect

Now, you will have to shell out some more from your pocket to pay for that golden tan.

Thanks to a new tax, which has already come into effect from July 1, where indoor tanners are paying a 10% increase.

The tax had been given a pass as part of the health-care overhaul that was signed by President Obama in the month of March, and is anticipated to be capable of raising $2.7 billion over 10 years, according to a March 10 estimate by the Joint Committee on Taxation.

The committee stated that the funds are projected to help reimburse the estimated $940 billion overhaul of health care.

According to the International Agency of Research on Cancer, indoor tanners have the potency and will likely develop more melanoma, which is the most lethal form of skin cancer in people, who choose to undergo the tanning process, than those, who do not.

In recent times, the institute, along with the World Health Organization, placed tanning beds to its uppermost cancer risk group, labeling them as ‘carcinogenic to humans.’
